SNUGBAGS MERINO = NATURALLY SUPERIOR Is all merino created equal? Unfortunately not. We use the world’s finest New Zealand merino wool for the majority of our garments, from one of the oldest breeds of Merino sheep living in the High Country of the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The natural characteristics of their wool keeps them cool in the summer when temperatures climb to 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) and warm in the winter when they drop to -15 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit).
Our New Zealand merino wool is spun in our New Zealand mill renowned for being world leaders in innovation and quality.
Our signature merino fleece fabric is spun from super-fine merino, specifically sourced from Tasmanian premier wool growing regions. These amazing merino fleeces are processed by our Australian Certified Organic (ACO) mill, using Responsible Wool Standard certified merino yarn.
Since our sheep are exposed to such extremities our merino is of far superior quality than any other merino on the market. New Zealand and Australia produce the longest, strongest, purest, whitest merino fiber on the planet, which means it’s more durable, stays softer for longer and is less likely to pill. This is why they are world-famous.
NATURALLY SOFT Our merino is the safest fiber to dress your little one in as it breathes and has the unique ability to regulate your child's body temperature. We only use the finest 19.5 micron merino as it is of far superior quality. No itch, no scratch and very safe for delicate and sensitive skin.
NATURALLY CLEVER Babies are not as adaptable as adults to temperature change. Because infants and children have a higher surface area to mass ratio than adults, they can lose heat rapidly, as much as four times more quickly than adults. This means that babies under 12 months have difficulty regulating their own temperature, even in a warm environment.
Merino is one of Nature’s most amazing fibers. It breathes and controls moisture which means it has the unique ability to maintain the ideal temperature between body and bedding. Using merino while sleeping will keep your little one cool when it is hot and warm when it is cold. NZ merino is far superior than other merinos on the market and customers say they can feel the difference at first touch. Our merino is silky soft and very safe for precious skin.
When babies are cold-stressed, they use energy and oxygen to generate warmth. Studies have found that by using NZ merino wool and thus keeping babies at optimal temperatures, neither too hot or too cold, they can conserve energy and build up reserves. When temperature is regulated and maintained a baby will become more relaxed, gain weight and sleep longer.
A well rested baby is a happy baby, which also makes for well rested and happy parents!
NATURALLY ABSORBENT Merino breathes and controls moisture. In contrast to synthetic fibers, merino has the capacity to remove large amounts (up to 35% of its own weight) of moisture from the skin surface before the fiber even begins to feel wet. Merino can prevent the 'clamminess' that can occur in environments of high humidity.
NB: Because infants and children have a higher surface area to mass ratio than adults this makes thermal regulation particularly challenging, and choosing the right garment or sleep system for children becomes extremely important.
NATURALLY SAFE Merino wool is naturally flame resistant and its performance exceeds that of all commonly encountered textiles. Due to the fact that merino is naturally fire resistant we do not need to use chemicals like fire retardants. As a parent, you will have peace of mind knowing your baby is wearing one of the most natural and safe fibres. Entirely chemical free!!
NATURALLY EASY Our merino is machine washable and dries very fast - ideal for today's busy parent and lifestyle. Because of it's superior quality, even after frequent laundering our merino retains its shape, colour and silky soft feel.
Always use an approved liquid wool detergent and cold machine wash on a wool cycle.
NATURALLY PURE All our fabrics are knitted and dyed right here in New Zealand and Australia in OEKO-TEX and/or ACO (Australian Certified Organic) certified facilities using eco-friendly and child safe dyes that are free from formaldehyde and solvents.
All our brushed merino fleece is undyed and unbleached.
